A "Hairy" Vocabulary Lesson

Ni'ke was getting ready for school this morning, and she wanted to wear something "extra special" because her class is going to the Wells Fargo Center today for a field trip.  I asked if she would like me to braid her hair for this special occasion, and she immediately got excited and started jumping up and down.  I took that to mean "yes"...  (It's the little things, I guess.)  :)   The following conversation left us in a fit of giggles like none other:

Me:  "What kind of braids do you want?"

Ni'ke:  "Um, how about interactive French braids?"

Me:  "Excuse me?"

Ni'ke:  "No no no, I mean inter- GALACTIC French braids!!"

Me:  "HUH!?!?!?"

Ni'ke (giggling now):  "Oops, I forget what they're called!"

Me:  "Do you mean INVERTED French braids?"

Ni'ke:  "Yes!  That's it!!"

Me:  "Well ok...  This is Captain Jean Luc Piccard of the Smith-ship Enterprise.  Engaging inter-galactic French braids NOW!!"

Too hilarious.  These are the kinds of days I want to keep mental snap shots of forever!!  Thank goodness for blogs, cuz they sorta do that for me.   Couldn't leave Rea out, but she only wanted pony tails today!

San Diego Roadtrip!!

Last weekend, David and the girls and I drove to San Diego!  He had an interview with the Navy JAG Corp, and we thought it'd be a fun adventurous weekend, and it WAS!  The little people had a long 4 day weekend anyway, so we loaded up and off we went.  We stayed in Old Town, which is the area David used to live when he attended his first year of law school there at Thomas Jefferson.

After David's interview he took us to an awesome pizza place called Pizza Bella.  (Doesn't he look handsome!?)

The Kitchen Pizza...   That's right, everything but the kitchen sink was on that thing!

There were a lot of fountains around there, and the girls had to have a picture by every single one of them!

 Walking back to our hotel
 More fountains!!

This was David's apartment when he lived here.  Cute!
OK, I needed a fountain shot, too....

The law school David went to moved downtown right after he transferred out, so we took a drive into the downtown area to see the new building and look around.  David ran into some old friends while we were there!  This is the view from the 4th floor of the building.
Don't know about the "luck" thing either, but what a cool picture!

 The girls were very impressed!

Ni'ke was obsessed with these stairs and insisted we take these instead of the elevator

We went out to eat at Gualalajara Restaurant for some amazing Mexican food!!!  What a fun and festive atmosphere!!  Loved the live music!

So Saturday morning was my favorite day!  I had seen signs the night before that there was a farmer's market the next morning, right down the street and walking distance from our hotel.  The girls and I got some breakfast and took off early so David could sleep in.  (Did I mention that we drove all night through the night Thursday and arrived in San Diego on Friday morning?!  Zipping through with no traffic was awesome and we made it in 8 hours!!!)
Anyway, I LOVE farmer's markets, and it was such a gorgeous weekend, it was 80-81 degrees the whole time we were there!
Ni'ke and I browsing the vendors

 Freshly-squeezed lemonade, anyone?!?!

The girls got new headbands - I love Ni'ke's big, floofy flower!

We watched the ladies make homemade tortillas

 Rea and I

Later that day, we drove up to Del Mar past Mission Bay and had lunch with one of David's favorite professors

Miss Megan, my adorable cousin who lives in San Diego!!  We grew up together in Missouri, and I hadn't seen her for 7 years!  Was so good to reconnect and catch up!

The girls after a fun night out!!

 Cousins!!

We had some amazing sushi at Harney's!!!!

What's a stay at a hotel without a dip in its pool?!?!?!

 David studies pool-side

A few more pictures before we leave.  Load up!!

What a fun and memorable weekend!  Hooray for spontaneous roadtrips!!!!

The girls, watching movies in the back seat on the drive home!  What a view we had too...  Love the mountains and love southern California!
David takes the California state bar this week, and he and Daryle into Sacramento tonight and won't be back till late Thursday night or Friday morning.  We appreciate your continued prayers and are so grateful for the love and support you've shown David these past years!  We are so proud of him and love watching him grow and prosper through his journey and can't wait to see where God takes him!
