The children had a swim meet in Santa Barbara last weekend, and I was so excited that I was off of work and could go! We've never been there before, so decided to make a little family getaway/vacation out of it! It was absolutely breath-taking.... We love the water, especially the ocean, and it was so fun to adventure out to a new place!
The mornings were a little chilly, especially at the early hours we were rising to get to the swim meet!
We explored around the hotel after breakfast the first morning after heading to the swim meet.
Sadly, we never got the opportunity to zip around on these awesome huge family bikes!
We watched them decorate this big outdoor ball room for an upcoming wedding that evening. You can't tell because it's overcast and hazy, but out there in the distance is a beautiful ocean view that must've been a gorgeous backdrop for the wedding!
This was the view early in the morning all 3 days of the swim meet. You could look out at the ocean and harbor from the pool, but you couldn't see anything till about 12:00 when the haze disappeared!
Morning warm ups before the heats began!
NOW it's sunny out there!
The kids played at this little playground when they weren't swimming
Our hotel had a shuffle board game and a little putting green!
Even when they weren't swimming at the swim meet, they still wanted to be in the pool!
Ni'ke and Ma-lak have some noodle wars
Like father, like son!! These two stayed out of the water and got a lot of reading in!
Me, trying to not get fried....
Our last night we got drove up and down State street and found a great little Italian restaurant!
We took a little walk on the beach and played in the sand - my favorite thing to do!
My toes were so happy!
Sidewalk street fair - lots of artists and vendors displaying and selling their stuff
Last day of the swim meet!! Super chilly this last morning!
All of the children did great!! It's so fun to watch them compete and really ENJOY being part of such a wonderful sport. Our children were the only ones there from our swim club, the Neptunes. Depending on how fast your swim times are for each event, you get a certain amount of points for your team. So the faster you swim, the more points you accrue individually AND for your team. Our team (which consisted of just our 4 kids!) ranked 13th out of the 24 teams that participated!! That's pretty good, considering most of the teams there had hundreds of kids!!
Rea swam 7 events and won almost all of her heats, but got disqualified in two. And she still placed 4th in her age division!
Love love LOVE our family photo! We don't have too many of these with all 7 of us!
Rea and Daddy....
We packed up and headed off to our next adventure in Santa Clarita - Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor! I cracked up on the hour and a half drive there - the temperature went from 64 degrees in Santa Barbara to 97 when we got to Santa Clarita in just over an hour! That's the California coast for ya!
Boys being boys!
And the girls being best friends
It was SO hot, but the water was FREEZING!!!
The next morning we went to Magic Mountain to ride some rides! I turned green and was pretty much ruined for the day after just the first ride - the Riddler's Revenge.... blech! It was VERY hot, but thankfully we were there on a Monday after the holiday weekend and the lines weren't long at all.
This is Daryle, "riding rides".... :) Not his thing!!
Ya'shar, enjoying one of many lemonade freezes!
Hanging by the hotel pool
Gorgeous view of the valley! Took a few pictures after dinner! My girls did each other's hair just for the occasion!! So pretty!
